New Mentorship Program

We are starting up a mentorship program to support our teachers new to the field or to the state. We are currently accepting applications for people interested in being a mentor or having a mentor. For anyone who finds themselves as the lone choir teacher in their district, having a mentor you can reach out to can be a lifeline and help us keep quality teachers in the classroom.

Chronology:

Application Deadline: December 31

Pairing up of Mentors/Mentees: January 1-6

Notification of Mentor/Mentee sent out: January 7

*In the future these processes will take place towards the end of the summer/beginning of the school year.

What is the time commitment?

We are recommending a minimum of 1 contact a month.

How will be be communicating?

Communications can happen any way you see fit: email, phone calls, zoom, in person, etc. We will do our best to match people with similar communication preferences.

Will I need to visit their classroom?

That is up to you. While in person observations can be beneficial they are not the primary objective for this mentorship program. Scheduling and school policies may be a hinderance to classroom observations.

How will new teachers be paired with a mentor?

We are considering the following elements:

  • Stated needs and mentor's ability to meet those needs

  • Preferred communication methods

  • Geography

Mentor Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years teaching

  • Member of AMEA/ACE

  • Willing to commit to monthly communication with mentee.

Mentee requirements:

  • Meet one of the following criteria:

    • Within 1st three years of teaching

    • New to teaching choir

    • New to Arizona

    • New to teaching a particular age group

  • Willing to commit to monthly communication with mentor.
